Narrative:Luscombe 8E Silvaire Deluxe G-BGRF: Substantially damaged due to a landing mishap, resulting in the aircraft coming to rest on its back, at Old Buckenham Airfield, Norfolk, 11 June 2017. According to the following excerpt from the official AAIB report into the accident:
"The aircraft was on final approach to land and descended over a rapeseed crop close to the end of the runway. The pilot states that he was attempting to land the aircraft “as short as possible on the short runway” but “misjudged” the approach and the landing gear made contact with the crop, causing the aircraft to nose over. The aircraft came to a stop on its back sustaining damage to the engine bay, propeller, windscreen, canopy and tail fin. The pilot was uninjured."
=Nature of damage sustained to airframe=
Per the AAIB report "Propeller bent, windscreen cracked, canopy damaged, dent in the aft firewall and the tail fin bent". The permit to fly for this airframe expired on 31 July 2017, indicating that the aircraft was "Withdrawn from use". G-BGRF was sold on to its 7th (and final to date) owner from 8 December 2017, presumably for repairs/rebuild.

History of this aircraft
This Luscombe 8E Silvaire Deluxe was built in 1947, and registered in the United States as N23FP. The US registration was cancelled on 28 June 1989. The aircraft was first registered in the UK as G-BGRF on 20 July 1989, moving on to its 2nd owner on 17 October 1989. On 18 May 1990, the registration G-BGRF was briefly cancelled by the CAA as "Permanently Withdrawn from Use"
However, "permanently" proved to be only some six months, as the registration G-BGRF was restored on 4 December 1990 to the aircraft\'s 3rd owner. The 4th owner appeared on 3 June 1991, the 5th and 6th on 8 February 1996 and 8 October 1998 respectively to the Luscombe Flying Group. (Nominal re-registrations due to the nominated member of the group having changed). As at 1 August 2016, G-BGRF had accumulated a total of 4,011 flying hours on the airframe.
After the incident at Old Buckenham on 11 June 2017, the permit to fly expired on 31 July 2017, indicating that the aircraft was "Withdrawn from use". G-BGRF was sold on to its 7th (and final to date) owner from 8 December 2017, six months after the above incident, presumably for repairs/rebuild.
