Narrative:
de Havilland DH.100 Vampire FB Mk.5 WA371, 203 AFS (Advanced Flying School) RAF: delivered 3/4/1951. Written off (destroyed) 5/4/1951: The aircraft was practicing stall turns about six miles north of its home base (RAF Driffield, East Yorkshire). From one of these stall turns, the aircraft's nose was seen to drop, and the aircraft entered a spin from which it did not recover, before crashing into a ploughed field near Cottam, 4 miles east of Sledmere, East Yorkshire . The pilot was killed on impact with the ground.

The reported crash location of Cottam is a hamlet and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The hamlet is west of the B1249 Skipsea to Staxton road, and in the Yorkshire Wolds. It is 16 miles (30 km) north from the county town of Beverley, and approximately 4 miles (6 km) east from the village of Sledmere, at approximate co ordinates 54.068375°N 0.481665°W
