Took off from Lajes Airfield, did not turn right as instructed, flew into hillside at Agualva , a short distance from Lajes. No survivors.
Liberator 246 Sqn flew into hill 4 mls (6 km) W of Lagens, Azores, 14/03/45; circumstances led to questions in Parliament, where evidence was given that the Czech pilot had been told to turn right after take-off; ignoring this warning, he turned left and flew into high ground, killing crew of six and eleven passengers; SOC 12.4.45.
