Narrative:On 7 August 2022, at approximately 19:49, a Mil Mi-2 of the 456th Transport Aviation Brigade landed in a field in Vinnytsia Oblast. At the same time, an air alert had been raised in the area due to the presence of military aviation of the Russian Federation. As the pilot of the helicopter did not have the appropriate level of training and experience for night flights, a qualified pilot was sent to continue the flight after the air alert had ended.
On 8 August 2022, at 00:58, the aircraft received permission from its dispatcher to continue it's flight. At approximately 01:10, the helicopter took off and continued its flight, under the command of the replacement pilot. After flying approximately 500m from it's takeoff point, the vehicle banked and sharply lost altitude, before crashing into a shed.
When the site of the crash was investigated later in the day, investigators found the destroyed Mi-2 crashed into a garden shed. The tail and main fuselage of the aircraft had been split, with the crash site spread over a wide area.
Ukrainian court documents and obituaries confirm the deaths of the following air force personnel:
- Kapitan Vadym Mykolayovych Kravets
- Leytenant Denis Lukov
- Polkovnyk Oleksiy Myrhorodskyi
- Polkovnyk Ivan Sholomii
Along with two other passengers
